praying

I sometimes can’t believe I write as much as I do.  I don’t think that’s wise but it just happens.  I don’t think I’m an expert on any of these things except I do personally know the power of forgiveness, faith, prayer and friendship with the Lord.  I speak from the heart.  Every time I think of victims I hurt.   Every time I think of the perpetrators I get angry.  Last week I was agitated – somewhat in between these two emotions.  I think I still am.  I feel powerless to help.  I offer what I can.

Today, I pray my prayers and have decided to add another practice suggested by the Holy Father – read the Scripture.  Although I am following the recipe, so to speak, in his letter to the Irish church, my intention is for the Irish as well as all those who suffer.  I need to remind myself of this.  I decided to read today’s readings as listed at the USCCB.  This was today’s Gospel.  I offer it for contemplation.

Matthew 6: 19-23-

Jesus said to his disciples:

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and decay destroy, and thieves break in and steal. But store up treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor decay destroys, nor thieves break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.

“The lamp of the body is the eye.  If your eye is sound, your whole body will be filled with light; but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be in darkness. And if the light in you is darkness, how great will the darkness be.” (found at http://www.usccb.org/nab/061810.shtml).

May God grant us strength and  His Peace.
