St. Therese of Lisiuex pray for us

I went to adoration today, hope you did as well.  Today is St. Therese, the Little Flower’s, feast day.  Fridays have become very special for me this year.  That may sound egocentric as I only write on Fridays but almost every Friday something surprising or inspiring occurs.  News about the crisis breaks (today was no exception on this one) or the readings are just right.  Today, it is a special feast day.  St. Therese loved priests.  She must weep with the Lord over the sex abuse crisis – for the Church, for priests and for the victims.  She would especially pray for the children.  May she send them roses today.  Several months ago I posted her prayer for holy priests and I repost it after the  Gospel – my selected reading for today which can be found here.  (I also said my prayers as usual, please pray and abstain on Fridays)

Lk 10:13-16

Jesus said to them,
“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida!
For if the mighty deeds done in your midst
had been done in Tyre and Sidon,
they would long ago have repented,
sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
But it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon
at the judgment than for you.
And as for you, Capernaum, ‘Will you be exalted to heaven?
You will go down to the netherworld.’
Whoever listens to you listens to me.
Whoever rejects you rejects me.
And whoever rejects me rejects the one who sent me.”

St. Therese’s prayer

O Holy Father, may the torrents of love flowing from the sacred wounds of Thy Divine Son bring forth priests like unto the beloved disciple John who stood at the foot of the Cross; priests: who as a pledge of Thine own most tender love will lovingly give Thy Divine Son to the souls of men.

May Thy priests be faithful guardians of Thy Church, as John was of Mary, whom he received into his house. Taught by this loving Mother who suffered so much on Calvary, may they display a mother’s care and thoughtfulness towards Thy children. May they teach souls to enter into close union with Thee through Mary who, as the Gate of Heaven, is specially the guardian of the treasures of Thy Divine Heart.

Give us priests who are on fire, and who are true children of Mary, priests who will give Jesus to souls with the same tenderness and care with which Mary carried the Little Child of Bethlehem.

Mother of sorrows and of love, out of compassion for Thy beloved Son, open in our hearts deep wells of love, so that we may console Him and give Him a generation of priests formed in thy school and having all the tender thoughtfulness of thine own spotless love.’
